IAIN COOK
The basis of my studies and the works that ensue from that research originate predominately from the Americas, North, Central and South. Aboriginal references that allude to both primordial and Pre-Columbian elements have long been a source of fascination in that they provide the student with glimpses beneath the veneer of civilisation of a spirit world that pulsates defiantly and prevails indomitably in a planet suffocated by material junk. My pursuit of these elements has often caused a curious geographical division to evolve in my output: the artworks originating from North American sources typified subjects conceived figuratively in daytime routines: sleeping farmhands, rural mansions and equine figures abound under hot Midwestern suns. Conversely, the works produced from Latin America evidence nocturnal subjects expressed in more semi – abstract terms – beings of deception whose activities thrive under the furtive, capricious light of moon and stars.
